FAQs

About the Scholarship

What is the difference between the SC RBAF Scholarship and other government scholarships?

The SC RBAF Scholarship provides scholars with a defined career pathway in MINDEF or the RBAF. Upon successful completion of their studies, scholars will be offered employment in accordance with their awarded pathway.

What are the obligations of an SC RBAF Scholar?

Scholars are required to successfully complete their studies and serve a bond with MINDEF or the RBAF. For a course of study of four years or less, the bond period is 10 years.

What is the difference between the military and civilian career pathways?

Scholars on the Military Pathway will serve as uniformed officers in the RBAF, while scholars on the Civilian Pathway will serve as civil servants in MINDEF.

Learn more about Career Pathways

Can I choose between the military and civilian career pathways?

Yes. Successful candidates will be required to confirm their career pathway when accepting the scholarship award.

Can I change my career pathway after the scholarship has been awarded?

No. Once the scholarship has been awarded and the career pathway confirmed, scholars are not permitted to change pathways.

Eligibility

Can I apply while waiting for my final examination results?

Yes. You may apply using your predicted results, provided they meet the required academic criteria. Any scholarship offer will be subject to meeting the required final results.

Can I apply if I have already started university?

You may apply if your A-Level, IB or STPUB results were obtained within the last two years and you meet the eligibility criteria. However, the scholarship will not fund the continuation of a course of study that has already commenced.

Is there an age limit?

For the Military Career Pathway, applicants must meet the applicable age requirements upon entry into service.

Applicants must not exceed 28 years of age in February of the year following completion of their undergraduate studies, or 35 years of age for Professionally Qualified Officers (PQO) in Medicine, Dentistry or Law.

Are there additional requirements for the Military Career Pathway?

Yes. Applicants for the Military Track must meet additional RBAF entry requirements, including eligibility category, age, height, BMI, physical fitness and medical requirements.

See Eligibility Criteria

Do I need to be physically fit to apply?

Yes. The selection process includes a physical fitness assessment. Shortlisted candidates will also be required to undergo and pass a full medical and dental examination before the scholarship can be awarded.

See Selection Process

Can I apply if I have a medical condition?

Yes. Having a medical condition does not necessarily prevent you from applying. However, successful candidates must meet the required medical standards before the scholarship can be awarded. Suitability will be determined through the required medical assessment.

Can I apply again if I was unsuccessful in a previous year?

Yes, provided your qualifying A-Level, IB or STPUB results fall within the two-year eligibility period and you continue to meet all other eligibility requirements.

Courses & Universities

Why are different courses offered for the Military and Civilian Tracks?

Courses are offered based on the manpower needs and priorities of MINDEF and the RBAF. If a course is offered under the Military Track only, applicants wishing to pursue the Civilian Track will not be eligible to apply for that course, and vice versa.

Can I apply for a course that is not on the published course list?

The published course list reflects the priority areas for the current scholarship cycle. Variations to the listed courses may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to the needs of MINDEF and the RBAF.

Can I choose my own university?

Yes. Applicants may choose their preferred university, provided it meets the scholarship's university requirements, including the applicable Top 100 university or Top 5 subject-ranking criteria.

See University Requirements

Can I apply before receiving a university offer?

Yes. You may apply before receiving a university offer. However, having an offer from a university that meets the scholarship requirements is preferred when your application is being considered.

Can I change my course or university after receiving the scholarship?

No. Once the scholarship has been awarded for an approved course and university, changes are not permitted.

Does the scholarship cover postgraduate study or professional qualifications?

The SC RBAF Scholarship is primarily awarded for undergraduate study. Postgraduate studies or professional qualifications are not ordinarily covered and will only be considered where specifically required by MINDEF or the RBAF.

Application

Can I apply for more than one course?

Yes. You may indicate more than one course preference in your application, provided the courses are included in the relevant scholarship offering.

Can I apply for scholarships from other providers at the same time?

Yes. You may apply for other scholarships while your SC RBAF Scholarship application is being considered.

Selection Process

What qualities are you looking for in an SC RBAF Scholar?

We look for well-rounded individuals who demonstrate strong academic ability, leadership potential, sound character, effective communication and teamwork, as well as a genuine interest in a future career with MINDEF or the RBAF.

Do I need prior leadership experience?

Formal leadership experience is not a requirement. Candidates are assessed on their leadership potential and personal qualities, which may be demonstrated through a range of experiences.

How should I prepare for the selection process?

Candidates are encouraged to be familiar with the scholarship, MINDEF and the RBAF, and to come prepared to participate fully in all stages of the selection process. Most importantly, be yourself and approach each assessment with an open mind.

What happens if I cannot attend an assessment on the scheduled date?

Candidates are expected to attend all assessments as scheduled. If you are unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances, please contact the Scholarship Section as soon as possible. Alternative arrangements, where possible, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
